[RT] Mark Brown & RT Rules

I would like to argue that the policy of banishment for certain type of
policy violations is a bit extreme. Yes, we all value civil discussions.
But I can tell you from working in this industry that civility sometimes goes
out the window during some of the most interesting and heated discussions.

Passion can lead to incredible creativity and original thought, as well as
ugly moments and unfortunate choices of words. Sometimes we just need to
cool down and I would suggest that a 1 week or 2 week cool down period for
violations of the language or conduct violations would be a much fairer
punishment.

Kicking Mark Brown off of real-traders for language violations or even for
being a pain in the ASS (emphasis added for effect) on occasion is a
shortsighted policy for someone who has contributed as much original thought
and thought provoking posts as he has.

Sure, there are some that do not like him. There are those who don't like me
either. Big Deal. I am not here to be liked, or liked by all, but rather to
learn and to share.

Personally, I like seeing people's ideas challenged. When people challenge
my ideas, that only makes me and the ideas stronger. Mark challenges people.

I challenge the moderator(s) or list owners of this list to change their
rules and allow greater freedom of expression and to establish cooling down
periods rather than banishment. Lighten up a little, or you will end up
making this a less interesting and useful forum for sharing information and
ideas.

Regards,

John J. Lothian
