That's what I was trying to get at......how this fix interacts with SP1 or SP2.
There was no date on the hotfix at the MS site. Are you sure it predates SP2?

Did you mean uninstalling SP2?
If so, are you sure that was necessary.
The reason I was so anal about the hotfix date was precisely because if
*hotfix* predated SP2 then, per MS warning, this could already be incorporated
into the latest service pack.......IOW, no need to separately install the
hotfix.
Again, IOW, maybe just installing SP2 will solve the problem.

So let's see. You uninstalled SP2 and installed the hotfix.......and it didn't
work. How about installing SP2 again. Worth a try!
