FYI:

I mentioned i was going to test Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0. I downloaded the software and installed it under Vista
x64. The very first window that popped up reported 4 GByte instead of 8 GByte memory. To me this indicated the software
is, contrary to their statements, NOT compatible with Vista 64. I did not run the software beyond that point.
Going on chat I got replies like "It is supposed to be compatible", and "their will be a new release soon",
all very scary statements. Googling for these problems I found other users having problems.

Enough for me to drop this product as a solution running under Vista 64.

Just mention this in case my comments would prompt a Vista64 user to buy this product.

For a while I used Paragon Drive backup. But, since my
laptop does not recognize external USB or eSATA drives I had
to store the image on a networked drive (on my main
computer).

Except, I had to jump thru the hoops to try make it
recognize my networked drive for restore purposes.

I finally gave up on Paragon and started using Norton Ghost.
Not only does it recognize by itself what is available on
the network, it is also much faster and the images are much
smaller than Paragons. In high compression mode it takes
less than 15 minutes to backup 25 GB into 8.7GB image.

I had the "opportunity" to try it out in real life to do a
bare metal restore. No problems! One of only 2 Symantec
products worthwhile bothering with.

Loss of data can have long lasting consequences. Often one
doesn't miss data
(any type) until months later - this happened a number of
times to me... I am
now careful not to delete old backup files to quickly. Off
site (internet)
is also an alternative; is cheap but slow. If you belong to
a trading team
your partners who keep their own backups they will always
have a copy of the
latest code ;-)

I also have an external USB drive for separate backup. I use
Acronis True
Image Home for external backups.

Today I added an extra 500 Gbytes hard disk and plan to
create several levels
of "backup partitions", i.e. instead of using traditional
disk images I will
use fully functional partitions for backup. This allows me
to restore my
computer with a single mousclick: instantly. I expect this
will save me a
significant amount of time. I will download/test the Acronis
Disk Director
Suite tomorrow.

Thanks,
Herman
