Not realy silly. I do the same.

However, keep one thing in mind.

If you ever catch a virus yourself (because it might be a new virus it
is possible that your scanner does not pick it up) be prepared that it
might infect your other machines. Many virusses have capabilities to
spread on your local network.

If you know all the risks and know what to do if it goes wrong, then
it's fine. If you don't know.... then i would say better save than sorrow...
