Hello,
Ara is right.
Advice for Nick: defragment disk AND go to
Tools->Preferences->Data and decrease the amount of symbols
cached ("In-memory cache") if it is higher than
5000.
Best regards,Tomasz

Nick,
I recall a note from Tomasz also as you do
...
Anyway, I use QP with local data base enabled and
I don't have the long shutdown problem...
Don't really have a suggestion for you, but you
might look into disk defregmentation if you are low on disk space

Jayson,I knew that the local database was not
specifically necessary when uing QP, but I thought I had read in a
previous message from Tomasz on the board that maintaining the local
storage was imperative in order to facilitate the fastest possible
operation of backtests and explorations, so I have scrupuloulsy
maintained the local database ever since. Is this not
correct? Is eliminating the local database the only way to correct
the lengthy shutdown? Will doing so slow down backtesting and
explorations?Thanks for your response,Best
