Senator Patrick O'Malley, who chairs the Financial
Institution Committee for the Illinois Senate, which
has oversight of the State of Illinois Office of Banks
and Real Estate (OBRE), has called for hearings on the
Intrust/OBRE matter. The hearings are to be held on
Tuesday, October 2nd at 10:00am at the James R.
Thompson Center State of Illinois Building, 100 West
Randolph Street, 16th Floor, Room #503, Chicago,
Illinois 60601.
The Senator has already stated in a television
interview that if OBRE acted improperly, that the
State should step up and provide relief to those who
have been hurt. We strongly encourage you to send a
short letter to Senator Patrick O'Malley at 12314 S.
86th Avenue, Palos Park, IL 60464
(708) 923-1818 expressing your feelings on the OBRE
actions in conjunction with the Intrust matter. To be
helpful, these letters need to be received by the
Senator's office prior to the hearings scheduled for
Oct 2nd, which doesn't leave much time. It is
suggested that each participant in a joint account
send their own letter, along with separate letters by
guardians on behalf of any child's account.
Arguments have been previously presented that only
1,200 account holders (7% of Intrust's total accts)
are objecting to the manner in which their accounts
have been treated. It is essential that 5 to 6 times
that amount write letters to Senator O'Malley's office
to voice their support of his inquiry and to express
their concern. It is therefore extremely important
that there be a show of support in this matter. The
greater the show of support, the greater the
possibility that the State will have to assist with
the allocation. We therefore strongly encourage you
to send a letter to Mr. O'Malley's office immediately,
or if possible, personally attend the hearings if you
live within reasonable driving distance.
