Sorry this is late getting back to you. The black lines on the 5/35 (or 5/17
or 10/70 for that matter) are what are called breakout/breakdown bands and
are different that the 1.40 of the wave 3 oscillator horizontal lines you
see me add to that is used to determine in a wave 4 if the 5/35 remains "in
control". The breakout bands are used to determine if a move which would be
initially classified as a wave 3 is "strong" enough to really be called a
wave 3. Sometimes after a big move lets say down for example we get "basing"
and the software could easily label a rise and fall that holds the low and a
rise that takes out the previous high a 1-2-3 however if the 5/35 is not
through the breakout band then there is a question as to whether it is a
wave 3 or just "noise". I don't know what they are made up of and it is
proprietary in the software as I recall (mine are set at the default setting
of 100%, some people use 80% I understand).
I have also found another use for them which is to exit a trade when the
5/35 breaks back down below (above in a down move) if the regression or 6/4
ma channels don't have me out already. Like I said in the past I like to
"try" to trade in the direction the 5/35 is moving and whether it has
crossed the zero lone in the histogram and the bands can be "add points"
and exit points as the 5/35 rolls over. Hope this helps.
