I use what I think is as straightforward and as simple a method as I can get. I
have multiple hard drives on every pc and periodically every week I copy the most
important files over from the originals to the 2nd HDs on both pcs and to the other
pc "C" drive, so I wind up with 3 copies (especially of the Omega files). I also
use a rewritable DVD drive to make copies of those same files. DVDs can store up to
4.7g, which covers most things that one is apt to have on a HD. This is as portable
as it gets.
