You're forgetting that the Global Server is "eSignal-compatible", not eSignal is "Global Server-compatible".

eSignal Data Manager is a server (daemon) which serves the incoming connections - for example from Global Server - which is a client in this communication.

And it's a job of the client to detect the connection between itself and a server being lost and to recover this link.

The daemon serves the incoming connection and authorise it. If the client is authorised, it starts to receive quotes. If the client is disconnected (for whatever reason), the daemon does not have to look for it - it just continue to serve the other possible connections (from another clients).

So if the connection between client and server is lost, the client should detect this and to restore a connection - that's all.

I have been experiencing the same problem lately. Global Server just
does not reconnect. I have to shut it down and restart it manually.

I think it's an eSignal problem, because the odd time when I do lose
Internet access, Global Server simply reconnects automatically when
Internet access resumes.

You may be losing connection to the Internet intermittently. It happens every now and then (not very frequent). The eSignal connection monitor icon on your task bar can indicate when Data Manager has lost connection by turning red from green.

List Members,

I am having an occasional connection problem between esignal's data manager
(ver.7.6 Build 273) and the global server.
This use to happen maybe one or two times a week, but lately about twice a
day.
For some reason global server just stops receiving quotes from the data
manager.
Then I have to reconnect the server, fill in chart gaps from signal
downloader, etc.
This is driving me nuts.
Does any one have any ideas on a remedy or a alarm function that will alert
me when GS is not updating??

Rand
