I lost one of my disk drives. My last backup was not recent
enough! Yeah, yeah, I know I screwed up. This was a hard
lesson.
The drive was starting to fail erratically and got
steady worse before I was able to determine that it was
indeed the disk drive and not some other problem.
Anyway, I noticed that the system would fail more as it
drive heated up. So in desparation, I put the disk drive in the
freezer for about 10 minutes, quickly installed it, and
loaded the system up, and I was able to copy files out thru
my net over to another computer before the next crash. I
did this several times and was able to get the data off that
failing drive.
