After nearly a year's absence, I've recently returned to using TS2000. It
took switching from Quotecom/Dynastore to using eSignal datafeed straight
in to get me back on board. I was pleased when TS2k fired up w/out a hitch
& everything started plotting.
However, I was not so thrilled when I saw some old problems (plus new ones)
that I'd sure like to be rid of, if possible. Below are five of them that
really make it difficult to trade and stare at a monitor all day.
1. I'm getting an hourglass every second or so instead of my cursor. Not
only is this a distraction, it makes it difficult to put my crosshair on a
price bar. I've never encountered this before & am not sure why it's happening.
2. On my ES U3=2 (emini day only) charts the chart blacks out for seconds
at a time with a message that there's no data. Apparently, it has something
to do w/ the day only symbol, as my Globex symbol (ES U3) doesn't have this
problem.
3. On the ES U3=2 (emini day only) charts I'm unable to plot trendlines,
fibs, etc. because as soon as I start dragging my mouse the screen jumps &
the tool I was using either disappears entirely or ends up being plotted at
some weird angle. It seems to occur during some type of updating. Maybe
these 3 problems share a common cause, and (hopefully) a common solution.
4. The next problem I've experienced before but managed to mitigate it
somewhat. It's the flickering or jumping screen phenomenon. In the past it
occurred occasionally, and I could stop it by having things like moving
averages only update at the end of a bar. That really wasn't an acceptable
solution, as when looking at a stochastic on a 1min chart that fires
buy/sell signals when it crosses the buy/sell lines I really need to enter
the moment of the crossing, not at the end of a bar. I recall seeing some
reference a long time ago that there's something in the Registry that can
be altered to stop this. Although I prefer to stay out of the Registry and
hope there's some other solution, I'll even try that if I have to.
5. Finally, the old nemesis of CPU usage. On a Win2000 machine w/ 800mhz
CPU & 512 mb of RAM, it often pegs at 100% usage when nothing else is open
(particularly when there's high volume, such as at the Open). I've tried
keeping my workspaces to a minimum (4), as well as indicators per workspace
(typically 5). I've switched off the update every tick feature on all
charts (1 per workspace) but my lowest time frames, so my CPU doesn't have
to work so hard. The only thing that may be taxing my box is a 144 tick
chart that shares a workspace w/ a 1min chart. I don't know if separating
the tick & 1min charts into different workspaces will help, or if I just
need to sacrifice the tick chart (which I really use because of its ability
to reveal price structure).
I realize many of you have gone on to TS 6 or 7 by now, but there's a
contingent of us who still swear by TS2000, even w/ all its problems. I'm
hoping someone can help out w/ these problems so I can get back to trading
w/out enduring both the old and these unexplained new frustrations.
Thanx to everyone who can help!
Michael
PS -- I forgot to mention that, excepting my tick-based chart, all my other
charts are multi-data charts (e.g., primary data plotted is 1min while
hidden data is 3min). I've used this configuration for several years w/ no
problems, so I doubt it's a factor in all this, but I thought you needed to
know.
