A year ago when I used the refresh data(BMI-futures) more often, I remember
that it was pretty good quality, it didn't have missing ticks, and it fit
in with my other data(on a chart).. Well, the last few times I've
downloaded it from the Omega ftp site, there have been too many
gaps(especially obvious on 1 min charts of ES0U), and the bars themselves
didn't look right. I just downloaded three days from last week, and
pasted them in one at a time, visually comparing the charts before and
after each paste. The 1 min charts of ESOU became noticiably worse, and
paintbar signals marked on the original charts, disapeared from the refresh
data charts. The charts looked like those made from a Signal FM system
with bad FM reception.
I wouldn't trust this data for trading. It's not so obvious on larger time
frame bars, but down at the 1 min
level it really looks bad.
If this is the norm for refresh data, and if Omega is going to stop
providing this "data" sometime soon, then perhaps its time to get serious
about setting up an alternative. We need a repository ftp site to which
refresh data can be uploaded, voluntarily or by request. There could also
be a part of this site to fill the need shown in recent discussions, a
place to upload and download charts and other information.
I'm sorry I can't offer to do this myself, but does this sound like an idea
who's time has come? Is there someone who'd like to take this on. I'm all
ears.
