Long version - read on.

Thanks Nick. I hadn't realized that VSMON.EXE was ZA. I suspect that my
_average_ is similar to yours. Okay, just checked the CPU time and it's
about 7-8%. The problem is that CPU usage spikes up to 100% or nearly
that every few seconds and typing and scrolling in some internet apps
get jerky when it does. Couldn't see any problems typing and scrolling
in Word.
I also have a file named SYGATE.EXE. That one and VSMON.EXE are the ones
using the CPU so much. I went into NT Task Manager and set the priority
for SYGATE.EXE, VSMON.EXE, and ZONEALARM.EXE to LOW and it seems to have
fixed the problem. I tried to change SGSERV.EXE but it wouldn't let me
do it. The CPU is still getting spiked but now I can type in Netscape
with no problems. I'm not that fast a typist but I hate typing faster
than the screen on a P3-450 with 320MB. :-)
