I am running on a Pentimum Pro 266 with 258 Meg Ram and IDE IO running Win 95B
and Norton Utilities to keep the registry clean, a Minimum of 198 MB of Swap
File space, and DeFrag using Norton Speed Disk putting all my files accessed
daily at the outer edge of the HD.

Using 2000i I have none of the problems others seem to have either. I am using
DTN as well and a High Speed Serial Port.

That's a lot of nice "bells and whistles" but all you really need is a basic
Pentium system with a lot of RAM (256MB+) and SCSI disk I/O. You're better
off spending your money in these areas if you want performance. I really
doubt that dual processors will make any noticeable improvements.

For example, I'm using ts2k with DTN satellite data feed on Pentium I 233
mmx, 384MB RAM and 16GB wide SCSI and NT 4.0. I've been lucky enough not to
have experienced any of the performance problems that get reported on this
list (i.e. slow charting updates, slow email alerts, dropped ticks, blue
screens, etc.).

IMO, mega doses of RAM and SCSI are the only way to go when you have real
time database applications that are disk and CPU/FPU intensive.

Could I prevail on anyone on the list who knows about these things
(cause I
sure don't) if they have any comments on the following PC setup
which I am
considering buying from DELL. Is there anything on there that
anyone
would suggest changing or adding to or might prove inadequate? It
will not
for now be used to run Tradestation, I will keep that on another
machine but
will be used for qcharts, a couple of broker interfaces, IE and
OE.

many thanks for any comments you may have and I guess it would be
better to
reply privatley rather than clutter up the list.

 regards

 Philip
