Moving TS 2000 to a different hard drive

This is posted to the list in case you ever have to move TS 2000 from one
hard drive to another, on the same computer or an another. The reason I
had to move TS 2000 is I accidentally moved the PII computer with TS 2000
running on it. Either the computer or Power Supply immediately shut off
the computer (perhaps thinking this must be a big earthquake) and my hard
drive with TS 2000 on it wouldn't power up.

Omega has provided a procedure in their online Knowledge Base to move TS
2000 from one hard drive to another. The present web page is:

Omega says "Moving the program from one hard drive to another is strongly
discouraged" however occasionally it's necessary.

I followed Omega's procedure several times, but it caused Global Server
initialization to fail, apparently trying to load the Symbol Universe. In
other words Omega's procedure didn't work. Therefore I converted changed
files from the Server directory on the old hard drive one-by-one in order to
isolate the problem. The problem was the symlist.dat file from the old
hard drive couldn't be converted to the new TS 2000 installation, but
otherwise Omega's instructions seemed to work.

The net effect of that was that I had no symbols in my Portfolio on the new
hard drive plus no Symbol Collection Templates, but I had everything else.
I did find however that when I added a symbol back to the Portfolio, and
then double-clicked the symbol to view it's data, all my data from the old
hard drive appeared to be there.

I also found I can view the symlist.dat file on the old hard drive in
WordPad and see the names of the symbols that were in my Portfolio.
Therefore I had a list of symbols to add to my Portfolio on the new hard
drive. I also had to reconstruct Symbol Collection Templates.

In any case it would be very helpful if Omega could figure out a way to
convert the Portfolio and Symbol Collection Templates from one hard drive to
another, as however Omega "strongly discourages" moving TS 2000 it is
occasionally necessary.
