After doing some programming back when DOS was king, I've fumbled
with Visual Basic a few times and found it drives me nuts just trying to
get the essentials down. (Well, mostly I get lost in the development
environment; messing up on the important stuff is a step further than
I've gotten.) But I'd have to agree with others that it seems the logical
place to begin. and in the next month or so I'll force myself to stick with
it long enough to figure out how VB works.
If you do decide to go with VB, pick up a copy of Gary Cornell's book
on VB6. From the look of it, and based on the testimony of several
capable programmers, it really will carry you from rank beginnner to
competent pro.
