You're not getting it.  It's the extra step of transferring data from a
remote host to a local machine which has its own set of configuration
problems and program interactions.  Witness all the problems with DLLs, not
enough RAM, different operating systems, corrupt data, etc.

If they can focus on fixing the data problems at one and only one source,
then these other problems go away.  The remaining issue is prompt
notification and data delivery over a reliable connection, whether it be
cable or telephone modem.

What I want to do is send my system instructions to the server and have the
historical results delivered back to me in seconds.  Of course, I would not
want anyone peeking at some of my systems ;-).
