The program I use is DTsearch. It is a search pgm for disk files, and
allows very sophisticated searches to made in very large collections of
data files. It is also very fast. I have about 50,000 files (a few Gigs)
that I search with this pgm. I can find just about anything in only a few
seconds. You don't have to do anything to set up a data base. It uses
existing files already on the computer. Very easy to do, and doesn't
disrupt anything. Also can find things in Excel, Word, Acrobat, HTML, etc
files, in addition to ASCII.

For example, I have files of TS studies, both mine and from other sources.
I can find *all* instances of code (in all the files) for an entry,
exit, or math technique in only a few seconds. It is then *very* easy to cut
this and paste into TS as needed. It is *much* more convenient than doing
things with the TS editor, because I can organize things as I wish.

I can also see or add notes in the text without causing 'bloat' in the TS
code - even including equations for math, which is not possible in TS. If
there are messages on the topic, say from the Omega list, these also come
up in the search. Just about any aspect of this is better than using TS,
at least from my point of view.

Unfortunately, Omega does not do many things to make it easy for more
experienced users. Just about all their efforts try to lock you into their
proprietary, and often inconvenient, ways.

Adding ASCII would be no big deal, either - it would be almost trivial to
code into TS.

But - remember the business model: sell to beginners, with hype about
'easy', make sure they can't transfer the pgm to others when they quit,
and forget about those that stay (they aren't a good source of income).
Why would a beginner ask for an ASCII option?

Hope this helps...
