How to Correct the Bad ticks on the Dow Jones Industrial
Average Index for 8/31/98

There was a bad tick in the Dow Jones Industrials on
8/31/1998 that corrupted the rest of the trading day. This is due to the
data storage routine for the 4.0 Data Server. The Data Server stores
ticks in blocks of approximately sixty, where each successive tick of a
block is stored as a difference from the original tick of that block.

If the first tick in a block is received or stored
erroneously, the successive ticks will also be stored erroneously. To
correct all of the ticks, edit the first tick in the series to be the
correct (or relatively correct) number. All of the successive ticks in
that block will respond to the change. DO NOT DELETE THE BAD TICK. The
first tick in each block will need to be edited to change each entire
block.

To edit ticks in the Data Server:

1.	In the Data Server, click the File | Portfolio menu sequence.
2.	Highlight the symbol INDU or $INDU to edit and click the Edit
Tick button.
3.	In the Date Box, enter 08/31/98 and click the Load button. A
list of ticks for that day will be displayed.
4.	Locate the first bad tick by either scrolling through the list
of ticks displayed, or clicking the Find button. Use the second option
of the Find dialog box for the search using the following parameters:
the price is less than 7000 or greater than 8200). This search will find
any ticks with prices lower than the low of the range or higher than the
high of the range.
5.	Once the tick to change has been located, click Edit or
double-click on the tick. This will bring up the Edit Tick dialog box.
6.	Replace the old price by typing the new price over it. Use the
previous correct tick price as the new price. Prices should use a
consistent format such as the decimal point or the carat (^).
7.	Click OK.
8.	Click OK to close the Edit Tick dialog and when prompted to save
changes click YES.
9.	Repeat steps 2 - 8 until all ticks have been corrected.
10.	The chart will now be redrawn with the proper data.
Please be aware the data available from the Omega
Research web site contains the same erroneous ticks for the INDU and the
$INDU and is NOT edited.

Ticks can also be edited directly from a chart by the
following:

Load a one minute chart for locating a bad tick. At the
location of the bad tick (represented by a spike on the chart) click
with the right mouse button to produce the shortcut menu and select Edit
Price Data. The Edit Tick dialog box discussed above will be displayed
and the above process can be followed from step 3. When finished,
clicking OK will return to the chart and the changes will be loaded.
