[EquisMetaStock Group] Running two copies of MS at the same time

Registry conflicts sometimes occur when you have two copies of
Metastock running at the same time, even if you have them on two
different hard drivers. If you have to run two versions of MS at the
same time, you can partition your two hards (or divide one large one)
so you can have two separate operating systems, one in each
partitiion. The operating systems can both be the same version of
windows, or whatever.

I ran Metastock EOD and Intraday at the same time. I had a few
problems but nothing I couldn't manage. However, I have heard stories
of people who were running two intraday copies on one operating
system getting the crap blown out of the registry. Metastock registry
entries are no big deal, if you know how to edit the registry. I've
only had to do that a couple of times, and nothing I had done did any
damage to any registry entries outside of the Metastock ones.

The stories I've heard were second hand so who knows what really
happened. Half of the people who buy MS can't copy a file from one
directory to another. They might have stuck a baloney sandwich in the
CD drive!

You can clear most Metastock registry entries by holding down the
ctrl and shift key at the same time you click on the MS icon to start
it up. Just type your name into the code box and keep going. All the
defaults will be reset and a couple of other minor entries will be
deleted. Doing this sometimes speeds up MS significantly, and other
times it doesn't. If I get a few crashes or bog downs, I sometimes
try this as well as rebooting to purge upper video memory. Works like
a charm most of the time.

Cleaning out the temp files every few days is a good idea. Mine are
automatically cleaned everyday.

~msfl.star can cause major problems. Make sure that's not lurking
somewhere, if you notice issues.

Video cards with accelerators have been known to cause crashes. If
you turn off the acceleration, the problems usually go away. If
you're running two copies of Metastock at the same time, you may get
crashes caused by video memory management. The problems aren't
permanent but they are frustrating.

Good luck--watch out for smoke--that's always a bad sign! Don't use
water to put out the fire, however. If you do, MS will be the least
of your problems.
