Hello List,
Anyone uses Expert Advisor's alerts extensively?
As you know an alert is not always triggered even though the condition is
met. I happen to know about this very well for I have an Expert attached to
the chart I know very well (checking it a number of times daily) and I also
know the condition very well (it is in fact plotted on the chart), yet the
alert most often fails to trigger.
This is very annoying at best - to see Metastock failing in this simple way
(and this is a really simple alert) - and VERY worrisome at worst. I'm not a
programmer and I don't know Metastock inner "works", but if it uses some
sort of internal "engine" to trigger System Tester signals and it is the
same engine used by Advisors alerts, then all testing done in Metastock is
unreliable :-(( And testing is meant to be a serious research, not kids
play.
"Recalculate Expert live", "Live Bars", closing-re-opening chart etc.
wouldn't do (was never meant to work, I guess). The best I found out so far
about alerts is first detach, then re-attach the
Expert to the chart, then it works, (any other workaround? please) but of
course forget e-mail and beeper alerts etc. since this is a manual
operation. - manually re-attach every time the chart is opened. To make sure
that the alert works attach a "dummy" alert to the chart to know for sure,
like C>ref(C,-1) or C<ref(C,-1). BTW, attach it anyway to check it out and
have fun { if fun it is:-(( }
All comments most welcome. My MS is 7.0 Pro.
All the best
