<DIV><BR></DIV>I was one of the original posters who mentioned the "Printing
Problem" with version 6.52 back in November. I've been told by Equis that it
was my printer driver, video driver, my printer was too old (Laserjet 4) and
other various reasons. My printer driver and video driver were both up to date
and my printer is far from being too old!!! Sharing my problem with other
Metastock users, we determined that it was in fact Equis' problem. On December
8, 1999 this message was posted from Bill at Equis:<BR><BR><BR>"We apologize
for any problems that you may be having. The vast majority of<BR>our users are
not having problems with printing. We do recognize, however,<BR>that a group
of users are reporting problems. <BR><BR>Printing problems within Windows
applications are difficult to diagnose and<BR>fix. An application may have no
problems for 99% of printers while 1% may<BR>experience some difficulty. Many
times printer or video drivers are at<BR>fault. Sometimes they are not.
Occasionally, an application may experience<BR>difficulties because of slight
differences between drivers and printers from<BR>different
manufacturers.<BR><BR>We are currently gathering information on this current
problem to try and<BR>identify the specific cause. It can be a daunting task
for reasons<BR>mentioned above. Once we are able to identify the problem, we
will<BR>implement a fix.<BR><BR>Once again, we apologize for the problem. We
want you to be happy with our<BR>product.<BR><BR><BR>Bill<BR>Equis
Support"<BR><BR>He had issued a survey for anyone who was having similar
problems. I was one of the ones who answered. Yet have they issued a statement
as to when the fix would be available. Until Equis comes up with a fix, I
thing we should keep it open for discussion. <BR><BR>The main reason I wanted
to post this message was because Tom left a message that he had contacted
Equis and they commented "the printing problems aren't their problem". What
happened to "We want you to be happy with our product". How can they say it's
not their problem. This is the only program I've had problems printing with
and it all started with the 6.52 upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think Equis should
update us as to their findings on this issue!! It's nice that they are working
on 7.0 Professional and other programs, but what about this crappy upgrade
they suggested we download?? <BR><BR>Heidi Stubner<BR><BR>P.S. Bill also
mentioned that "The vast majority of our users are not having problems with
printing." If you are not having problems printing, please post
here!!!<BR><BR>t 08:15 PM 02/22/2000 -0600, you wrote:

<BLOCKQUOTE>I too have been having printing problems for some time using
MetaStock v. 6.52. Some or all of the inner windows are blank when I attempt
to print. Usually when I print the same windows again, they will be ok. I've
contacted Equis twice about this problem. Their first response, several
months ago, was that my price data were corrupted and that I needed to
delete and reload them. Doing so didn't solve the problem.<BR><BR>About a
month ago I contacted them again and got the response shown below. It says
that printing problems aren't their problem. As best I understand their
response, they are now saying that the problem is either due to Windows 98
or to my printer. I doubt if it is the printer because I've had the same
problem with two different printers - one a Canon and the other an HP.
<BR><BR>I tried some of their suggestions below concerning print spooling.
This made the printing process too slow to be practical so I didn't try it
enough times to learn if failure would occur or not. <BR><BR>It seems to me
that the problem is in MetaStock v. 6.52, although it could be within
Windows 98. However, I never have had a printing problem with any other
program other than MS v. 6.52. <BR><BR>I don't know what to do from here. If
anyone gets any good ideas, pleas post them.<BR><BR>Thanks!<BR><BR>Tom
Strickland<BR><BR><BR>*******************************Equis's
Response****************************************************************<BR>MetaStock
does not have any control over the printing. We just send a<BR>command to
print and Windows takes over from there. Windows controls the<BR>printing
through the printer driver. Printing in Windows is accomplished by<BR>the
Video Driver telling the Printer Driver what it sees and the
Printer<BR>driver trying to print it on the page.<BR><BR>If your charts
print except sometime it is possible the print spool setting<BR>in Windows
are not fully compatible.<BR><BR>Try to disable the print spooling feature
and see if this helps. You do<BR>this as follows:<BR><BR>Click
Start|Settings|Printers.<BR><BR>Right click the icon for your printer and
select Properties from the menu<BR>that appears.<BR><BR>Click the Details
tab.<BR><BR>Click the Spool Settings button.<BR><BR>Look at the Spool Data
Format column and make a note if so you will know if<BR>it says EMF or
RAW.<BR><BR>Select Print directly to printer.<BR><BR>Start MetaStock and try
to print your charts. If this works it means you<BR>have spooling
trouble.<BR><BR>Run Scandisk on your drive to repair the spooling file in
Windows.<BR><BR>Also go back printer properties on the Details tab select
Spool print job<BR>for faster printer and change the data format to RAW if
it was set to EMF.<BR>Select OK and print again in MetaStock. If this works
use RAW instead of<BR>EMF and it will mean you can spool which makes your
print jobs faster.<BR><BR>If disabling spooling worked but RAW did not it
means you cannot spool,<BR>which will make your print jobs slower but will
allow you to print your<BR>charts.<BR><BR>You should also contact the
printer manufacture and get different versions<BR>of their printer driver.
It is possible that an earlier version of their<BR>printer driver will work
for you.<BR><BR>Also ask the printer manufacturer if your printer can use
printer drivers<BR>from other models of the printer. <BR><BR>If you try
different printer drivers you may discover a version of the<BR>driver that
is compatible allowing you to print all of your charts on
your<BR>printer.<BR><BR>George<BR>Equis Support<BR><U><?color><?param 0000,0000,ffff><http://www.equis.com/>http://www.equis.com/<BR><http://www.equis.com/customer/support/>http://www.equis.com/customer/support/<BR><?/color></U>Please

Al please, let's not encourage them to peddle 'bells and whistles separately.
One of their bean counters will get micro-focused on the extra cash flow
and we'll never get a decent app out of them again. It'll be all bells and
whistles.
Let's just keep pushing for a decent, bug free app period.
Maybe it will help if we all continue to refuse to accept their "it's your
drivers fault" cop-outs.
I've been having problems with it crashing for no apparent reason in the
middle of work sessions. I run NT4 with SP4. Even Omega doesn't crash in NT.
And they tried to blame it on drivers.
And now if we upgrade to 7 - we get shut down with requests for CD checks.
Sounds like junky developing and buggy software to me.
