Thanks for the feedback, Joseph and Paul,

Sorry for the delay in my response. I looked into bridging but do not understand the details well enough to know if it would meet all my needs. I think a trip to my favorite computer store (small techie place) might be useful. They also provide in-house support - Unless someone here has a working setup that I can copy, making a layout plan for my computer room and having them work on it, might be worth the fee. This might also make it easy to get future on-site LAN support.

I have streaming data however I do not use it at this stage. My first requirement is to create a hardware setup that supports scheduled downloading of large amounts of data and reliable ordering with an automated Internet Backup. When that works I will look at adding RT entries/exits.

Ideally I would like to use one computer to handle all data issues, one to do the trading, and one to develop code on. Is it possible to have a LAN based database? Fred might be a leader in this area...

AmiBroker is a great software package however there is very little practical information on how to setup a professional trading room. It appears that everyone is doing their own thing. For a non professional programmer, i.e., a wannabe professional trader, there are an awful lot of technical issues/headaches to solve to get to the actual trading stage. It would be great to have a write up for a AmiBroker turn-key trading setup. I bet that 99% of all AB users are working with a less than optimum hardware setup, a big waste considering all the effort that goes into making AB work at lightning speed.

Of course, if you have a profitable trading system the delay to functionality can be, in terms of lost trading time, very expensive. So everybody is paying a very hefty price.

best regards,

herman

How many tickers are you streaming at the same time? Have you checked your traffic statistics to see if your bandwidth is full. It can be easily checked against any speed test site. If you can achieve much higher bandwidth in your speed test than streaming data. then throttling might come from esignal or whoever sends the data

Thanks d,

The daily data download is getting more time consuming as I add foreign markets. Also it appears that there is some download throttling going on by the ISPs here, this will undoubtedly get worse. And then I may want to try adding a real-time component to an EOD system. Having the Internet go down during order placement, or having slow data during the market Open/Close, can be quite frustrating... even costly. So, I thought to be proactive and learn what is available nowadays.

I've done it in the past but not right now. I had a dsl and a cable modem. I used a Nexland ISB Turbo Pro 800 Router that allowed use of both modems and would continue with 1 if the other failed. I changed my trading and didn't need that functionality plus within a week after buying the Nexland Symantec bought them.  Needless to say support and firmware updates evaporated.  But there are other multi-modem routers out there.

Or you could just use a regular router and switch the lines manually - but you'll be paying for a modem/line you don't use.

For real-time trading I would like to set up two different technology ISPs, each with their own modem to increase bandwidth by combining two low cost ISPs, and to create a Redundant Internet Connection.

Has anyone done this successfully? If so which products are you using?
