[amibroker] Re: OT: XP / Vista

Ara,

Recently I was forced to buy a new laptop - the one that was on sale
came with Vista. I generally only use the laptop when traveling, so
it isn't my primary machine. Here's what I've found:

* Vista breaks many programs - I guess they are broken so badly that
a patch is not available - I've had to re-purchase them anew.
* Vista seems to spontaneously re-configure itself occasionally. This
has been especially a problem with the display. Every so often, when
I start it up the display settings are different (like the desktop
with the associated icons are located on a non-existent second display
 - and you have to go in and tell it to please put the main display
on the laptop screen.) - the icons on the desktop have been
re-arranged etc. And of course Microsoft has removed the "Display"
utility from the "Control Panel" just to make things easier to fix!!??
I could go on - - -

Mine also has dual core CPU's - I've run some speed tests and have not
noticed any increase in speed. The main difference is that my new
machine generates more heat than the older single CPU.

Doing many things in Vista is generally slower, because it asks your
permission for many things that XP just used to do automatically. The
screen is always going dark with a diaglog box saying - Is it OK if I
do this?

Maybe just the price of 'progress'
