I have been using the standard Backtester for some and looking
at the reports for Annualized %, Net Profit, etc. I like this very much –
but as usual with Amibroker there is so much more. I am familiar with the
Custom Back tester features but decided the basic functions were enough. Recently
Avi wrote about a book introduction and really perked my interest:
I agree with most of your views except the custom backtester. If you
are selling a book that teaches newbies how to take advantage of any
trading software, custom backtest is a must for anyone to make any
decent money on a consistent basis.

I am very curious at as a “basic newbie” growing into “a
think I may be getting to be a more sophisticated trader” – what is
being missed with testing only using the basic mode? I only ask as
I have been lately doing more backtests and optimizations and sincerely want to
improve my trading systems. Avi would you consider expanding your
ideas a bit so I can do some research..
