Hi Yuki,
I'm not sure the moving target is such a problem, ie Unless Tomasz
starts releasing Amibroker with Vista only components (Which I don't
think will happen for quite some time - If at all - Due to current
supported platforms). I think Win98 compatibility is all that is
required (Due to Win98 still being a supported platform for AB). As Wine
XP support is also improving, When AB drops 98 support Wine should be
more than ready in the XP department.
I'll just clarify, Wine isn't really an emulator. It's more like a
replacement set of .dll and core windows components that are compiled
under Linux. When a program calls on a .dll or system component, It is
executed just the same way as on windows. Nothing is actually emulated.
As such Wine runs as fast (Except GFX) or sometimes faster due to the
underlying Linux OS architecture.
That said, It's still a work in progress. And compatibility issues are
still at large. But still, It works pretty well now.
A Linux port would be nice, But I imagine users of realtime plugins that
rely (currently) on a windows only client would also be an issue. No
problems for people that ASCII import their data (like me) or get their
quotes via AmiQuote.
KR
Michael.
All the best,
Michael.
