Well, i definitely learned my lesson...I had installed Nvidia firewall
and Nvidia "network access manager" thinking since its from Nvidia
itself, then it must be good for me...When you mentioned 3rd party
firewall could be the problem, i removed the Nvidia firewall, but the
Nvidia network access manager was still there and i think thats what
was causing the problem. After removing that, Amiquote was running
like a Lexus..i dont wanna get ahead of myself just in case the
problem resurfaces, but i think it was related to that. I also
disabled a bunch of windows "services" following this guide
http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/windows_xp_services_2.php
and now my PC runs much faster too...took out the windows XP themes
and reverted to "Classic" as recommended by the guide. I had to say
goodbye to the big green Windows XP "Start" button, but am happy with
the PC performance improvement. You have no idea what kind of weird
windows services are slowing you down until you actually realize how
much garbage is running on your Windows XP PC by default.
