Saluti, Andrea.
I'll be happy to help you whenever I can, however there are some key members of this board that can more easily answer almost any of your questions about Amibroker and about trading - better than I can.
Not many of us have posted profile like you have, and I've only come to know some of the players by gleaning bits of data over the past two years of lurking and posting.  Thanks for posting your profile.  The forum has been very productive in the last 2 months and I think you'll find it invaluable.  It ebbs and flows like a lot of life's processes and organizations, however it's in a good state right now with an increasing number of courteous contributors.  If you haven't met AB's founder/author you'll enjoy meeting him and experiencing the support he provides.  Based on his comments to some of the questions asked here, answers that can be found by pressing F1, he does suffer fools very gracefully.
There's almost 2 generations separating us in age and while my style is not short term swing trading, I do rely on Amibroker to manage part of my 'nest egg'.   I don't know if you're familiar with older American movies but like consider the line in the Graduate (1967) when Mrs. Robinson says to Benjamin (Dustin Hoffman's character) the place to be is in, "plastics"; my one word to you would be patience.  The second is timing, and the third is compounding.  (as I review the context of that line in the movie it really doesn't fit here).  I seen many of my young and old colleagues in the Houston area jump from one new strategy to another while subjecting their initial equity to attrition, or as it's called in brokerage houses, churning.
The significant part of what I pay my bills and taxes,  is managed by a patient 'stock picking' money manager who relies on fundamentals, sector analysis and to some extent market direction, who out scores market indices and on the average most mutual funds.   This is very similar to what your bank would do for institutional and trust accounts.

Subject: [amibroker] A new member

Hello everyone,
I'm a new member of the community, having purchased a couple of weeks
ago ABroker. Amazing software I have to say. I tried Metastock and
then AmiBroker... No need to say I've chosen AB, and not only for the
price!

Let me introduce myself briefly: my name is Andrea, and I am a male,
I'm italian and andrea is a male name in my country (well i can't
understand why they give such a masculine greek name (andros = men) to
girls....by the way :-). I'm 28 years old, a degree in finance (how it
compares to the US school system i don't know...it's 2 steps before
Phd) and the will to become a full time trader, on my own or for a
company/bank. I'd prefer the first one if I will be able to make a
living out of it.
Does anyone here pays his bills only with trading ?

I've been working on technical analysis studiing it for an year now,
at first using charts from websites, then deciding to test ideas,
systems etc. on my own with a program. I'm actually working hard on
the most difficult side of trading (for me at least) : psychology.
My main problem is to get started trading. I've traded for a couple of
months with this results :
started with 20.000 euros...up to 22.400 in one month (not bad I was
really happy) then down to 20.300...I stopped there for reflection
following mr Elder teaching in his books.

Now I will try to develop a more methodic trading, than following impulse.

I'm on holidays right now, graciously enjoiing the wifi of my friend
neighbour. Hope to become an habituč :-D

Greeting everyone.
Andrea
