Hello,
first of all a big "thank you" for the latest version, which appears to
work now both with base-time intervals 1-min and daily.
That said, we all recognize how unsatisfactory certain things with
IQFeed are.
Nevertheless, with the plugin now working also with base-interval
daily, IQFeed is already a good feed and can be recommended (despite
the spike problem as far as intraday data is concerned).
The fact that the number of users who subscribe to the "IQFeed for
Amibroker" special offer is low is the old hen and egg problem. But
it doesn't imply at all that a much larger number of Amibroker users
is not interested in alternatives to eSignal. In fact, one of
Amibroker's plus points is the fact that users have a choice in terms
of the RT data feed, even if they subscribe to eSignal.
Assuming I were an independent charting program vendor such as
Amibroker, I'd say that the more data feed choices exists, the
strategically better for me as charting program vendor.
It's not difficult to imagine what would happen if there weren't any
alternatives to eSignal. eSignal would further raise its prices.
What's more, eSignal itself is strategically interested in selling not
only a data feed product but in turning this product more and more
into a complete charting, backtesting and trading environment. If
they want, they can easily hike prices for users of alternative
charting packages and hence discriminate independent charting program
vendors. While eSignal is still inferior to charting programs such
as Amibroker, the eSignal application is already sufficient for a
large percentage of traders.
> Why everyone expects the developer of the charting application to
fix ALL DATA problems that DATA VENDOR should fix in first place?
well, a solution would be here that DTN/IQFeed publishes the API
description without charging the $300 license fee. It would allow
independent programmers to development a plugin and support the feed
much better, perhaps as open-source project. Clearly, if it is
already uneconomical for the charting program vendor to develop the
plugin (who at least earns indirect revenue by selling his charting
program), it is even more uneconomical for independent developers (who
don't sell a commercial charting program and would give it aw).
> Why IQFeed sells the same data 2x cheaper to QuoteTracker?
because the Quotetracker applications creates less server load, given
that the backfill is restricted to only a short number of days.
best regards,
