Hello Graham
The best thing to do is format the drive in FAT32, copy the files from the
CDrom to the hard drive and run the install from the hard drive.
It is not uncommon for failed instalations due to cd reading errors.
The reason for staying with FAT32 is it is easier to recover data if XP
crashes and burns.
There is no problem with networking and different drive formats.
The computer that hangs may have problems other than software. Usually a
stripdown clean and reassembly will resolve this issue. Many PCs play up
simply because of dust buildup, dirty connections.
If you are not sure about how to go about it and need some help, remember
i'm only a few suburbs away.
contact privately if required.

Regards

Don McKay
