[amibroker] Re: Off topic (Inet access redundancy)

Dingo,

This is so simple I am sure it would work even though I have not
tried it myself. Buy two LAN routers. Connect your cable modem to
one and you DSL modem to the other. Now just connect your computer
(via ethernet) to whichever router/modem you want to use. Your
computer should be happy since either way it would keep its setting
to get its internet connection via the LAN. You might have to
restart your computer when switching routers since the routers might
give your computer a different ID name (assuming you have the router
set up to assign your INTRAnet IDs).

Why 2 routers rather than just swtiching which modem is plugged into
the router? Because the router (if it is like mine) retains the
logon user name and password for the internet provider. Of course,
you could get by with 1 router if you are willing to go into the
router's info records and change the user nameand password to make
the switches from cable to DSL. However, I had to have make some
additional setting changes on the router connected to my DSL modem
(packet size or something like that) to enable Outlook to download
my mail. So I would rather pay the extra $50 to get a second router
than mess with that again.

Another alternative would be to get a regular dial up internet
connection as a backup.
