Science fiction is fiction, and the huge amount of $$$
being spent to build airfields, build up supplies, etc. is not
fiction.

Iraq
Oh c'mon. No one wants to get rid of Saddam. The
West is better off maintaining the chaos in that region. Doesn't
matter what we do, we'll get blamed for their ills anyway. No point
in alienating them further by overtly overthrowing Saddam then having to
clean up the mess. I think we have our hands full with
Afghanistan. Arab despots don't want any successful example of
democracy within earshot either. If we really wanted to take him
out, we'd have zapped him with a laser beam from outer space long
ago. The region won't be any good to us in a generation when they
run out of oil.--- In <A

George Will had an interesting article several years ago. He
proposed creating a new capitol city under the southern "no-fly"
zone. Saddam would not be able to attack it. The Iraqi
citizens would flock to it because it would thrive in trade. It
could choke off oil money going to the north. It could also serve as
a base for covert ops. Seemed like an interesting idea.>
