Not sure what you mean by security but some of the kids know how to
disconnect you to Irc networks with out of bounds packet flooding and icmp
packets sent via smurf which utilizes many servers and is mostly
untraceable. However, they don't just pick on any connection, they are
usually fighting with each other over a channel or possibly targeting me
and my peer as we are seen as "the cops". :))
Of course there is always the possibility of your computer being
compromised via an open port but that possibility resides on the internet
in general and is not restricted to Irc.
Oh.. and Yahoo chat I know nothing about. I assume it is a web based chat
system which *is* very insecure as to chat privacy as it does not utilize
many leaf servers bundled through routers such as Irc uses. Even so,
security is not much of an issue with us .. (as a few folks have pointed
out). I'm open to any idea but I know the Undernet and have a little
influence there for anything we might need. It's up to the people
interested in a chat channel at all.
Thanks,
Bob
