In re the thread going around RT recently
about ending our dependency  <FONT
face=Arial size=2>on imported oil
I say it's misleading to think so
without
gaining some perspective.

A recently published
chart showing a map of the world and
the sources of oil imports <FONT face=Arial
size=2>to the U.S. showed the following:

We import approximately 10.5 million barrels a
day.
Of that  approx 2.5 million barrels come from
the Middle East.

The balance comes from sources friendly to us or
under our
hegemony; South
America approx 2.5 mill bbls, Europe .9
million,
Africa 1.5 million ;
while Canada and Mexico
together supply 3.1mill bbls and they can
hardly be called foreign imports.

So the at-risk supply, being from the Middle East,
is not a
dominant percentage.  But of course if it were
cut off we would
face some hardship.

Note that China and Russia are not a source of
imports to us but
have the potential to make up some of the Middle
East dependency.

I believe that's partly why the President is making
overtures to the
muslim states of the former Soviet Union, e.g.
Uzbekestan, etc.
where they have reserves of oil.

FYI
