Many try to compare how the market will respond to prior tragic events.....
In my opinion what this tragedy does is exacerbate the trend and deepen the
recession/depression cycle that we are already in. The economists will be
hard pressed after this to continue to spin and parrot each other's claim
that we are not in recession and that we will continue to have positive GDP
and turn around anytime soon. The airline industry is the engine of our
economy and it is all but devastated by this tragedy. Even if the govt
gives money to airlines there are many people who will never fly again and
the corporations will start using video conferencing with interactive
internet hook ups ... it's safer and cheaper in this kind of economy. Those
that believe in cycles can see that when the bigger cycles are all pointing
up and a smaller one turns down short term you get a correction.. when many
of the larger bigger cycles are all turning down and you have something
like this happen along with war that is likely to effect energy prices....
it spells disaster
I would guess that the govt is orchestrating an attempt to keep the market
up or at a minimum from unraveling Monday morning....but I don't believe
that any amount of manipulation or short term flooding market with money can
change the long term trend.
