Rather than the Western world set foot
onto Muslim soil a better solution would be for the Muslim world
to show the rest of the world that it can exact proper punishment upon the
perpetrators of terrorism.  Let them exact their own form of
punishment.  President Bush has the door open for that possibility but it
is slowly closing.  Osama could turn himself over to Muslim authorities and
save many of his countrymen's lives.  He could show them he is as willing
to join Alla as those he sent before him.

First responsible post I have read. The scale of this
tragedy is enormous and feelings are hurt, there is outrage and justifiably
so. Nothing can be used to justfy this murder. However the final solution does
not lie in a military option. Military options can only have a limited impact
i.e. curtailing activities of the madmen temporarily till they start from
elsewhere or a new group of mad men come on the scene. Israel a nation that
brilliantly defeated the combined military might of the arabs had to give in
to the uprising of a civil population. We Indians threw the Brits out, I am
sure I am going to get cursed for this by the list members from the U.K. ,
with civil disbedience. Point I am trying to make being - military solution
will not work long term - whether you like to admit it or not is upto
you.As Don rightly says there is a need for a mind set change. To do
that you have to bring down the negative influence of the mullahs. They are
the real culprits, a section of the religious bureaucracy to perpetuate it's
own power and hold over the people is espousng feelings of hatred for others
and glorifying murder as a road to martyrdom. Secondly you have to address the
core issues here i.e. that of the West Bank and Washington's support to it's
allies in the gulf states. The gulf states need democracy. Today you have
pliant puppets ruling there absolutely divorced from their populaces. You
better encourage those jokers to get busy with their harems and encourage
democracy in those countries. Once these issues are addressed the raison
d'etre of the mullahs exhortation for jehad is over and their mesage loses
whatever "justification" it has today.Whether or not the world
exhibits sagacity will determine if the problem is rooted out or
  exacerbated.RakeshAt 11:57 AM 9/13/01 -0400, you

  Charts are definitely in
Order....  :)I know this issue of terrorism is really an issue
of belief.  You changeyour belief, you change your point of view,
one's behavior canchange.  Although difficult as most traders
know. You have to figure that most people in this world are not
sophisticated inunderstanding or even knowing about
themeta-structure of beliefs and how the mind operates to affirm and
reify theperson's belief system.  Thus they are trapped in
a belief bubble that in itself contains potential for
destructivebehavior. If the Koran in its wisdom, has a flawed
premise that condones or allows aloophole for mass behavior contrary to
the lovingpurpose of Allah, it is incumbent upon the leadership of the
Muslimreligious community and governments to work to exposethis
flaw, to do some serious revisionism and start changing of their
owncultures.  No small task.It is a task that can be
done. One can see the evolving "Human Project" as it struggles to
remove itself ofnegativity.WW1 and WW2 both key examples formed
the idea of developing interdependencebetween countries to foster
interaction and peaceful process. One can look at the evolvement of
American Christianity,  as late as the1950's the common practice of
preaching judgment and fire and brimstone, haschanged from proselytizing
for Christ to modeling one's behavior onkindness, consideration,
compassion, although always done, emphasis in thelast 20's years, in my
opinion, leans heavily on discoveries in humanpsychology started by
Abraham Maslow.I look at how modern public schools in the US and I
expect other country's,have recognized the importance of self-worth and
developed process andprocedures to give young children the message that
they are loved and caredfor.  Children are taught to work in teams
and work for the common good andto solve problems.   I know
that the American public school systems didn'tdo this when I was in
school in the '50's-60's.Just the rhetoric of keeping race, religion
out of the process of gettingthese )#(%&)(#&% terrorist's shows
what this country has learned sinceinterning Japanese American citizens
during WW2.In my opinion, the image of all the young boys in
Palestine celebrating thetoppling of the towers, shows that the
Palestine leadership has a long waytogo to pro-actively changing its
beliefs.   They sure could use someproactive
    help...Don Thompson----- Original Message
