What constitutes a "boiler room?" How many brokers need by lined up in a row
or how many cold calls must one make? Is there any differentiation between a
boiler room or aggressive room? What is the difference between
'high-pressure sales tactics' and sales tactics? Could a real estate agent
trying to make a sale be considered a criminal? Prosecutors and defense
attorneys are involved in 'high pressure sales tactics;' to get convictions
and not-guilty verdicts. What is the difference between embellishing the
truth and outright lying? Investing is motivated by greed; both by the
brokers and by the investing public. Perhaps in the past when it was more
difficult to get information my mindset would be different, but in the
current age of unlimited information, the public is just as guilty as the
broker. People have left their logic on the clothesline when a broker calls
them up and tells them they are going to make them millionaires through some
illiquid non-nasdaq stock. People should begin taking responsibilities for
their actions and stop blaming the other person. The days of Mayflower
Investments and Hanover Sterling are gone; OTC firms are dwindling down to
nothing; a legit retail broker is realizing that he/she has to focus on
assets under management, referrals, and the relationship if they are to have
any longevity in the business. In the past a successful broker didn't need
to know anything about the markets, he just had to keep writing tickets. I
guess the current climate is not conducive to making a movie; let's re-hash
the past, again. I would like to see a movie about some individual investors
who thought they were smarter than the rest and decided to day-trade. No,
even better...let's make a movie about SelectNet and ACT slowness, backing
away, and compliance...that should sell a lot of tickets.
Comments welcome,
Chris
PS...what ever happened to the tv show, Traders?...I guess Manning, Limit
Order Protection, and the DOJ decision made it a boring, agency-only firm.
