Stig,
Thank you for posting such a well thought out commentary.
A few observations:
a) 17% swing appears to include too few samples to have significance
b) Neither H&S is confirmed by OBV which is 50% higher on right shoulder
than on left shoulder
c) The strong OBV puts one in the bullish camp
The 78% retracement level seems to be providing some very important support
holding up what every analyst agrees is a very bearish price formation
whether you call it a w.4 ABCDE or a bearish triangle. Swing over to the S&P
and we have a clear H&S with confirming OBV (using SPY volume or NYSE
volume) which has so-far failed to deliver the expected downside and the
major indicators are delivering conflicting signals. Finally, over on the
US$ front we have another clear H&S with confirming OBV which has broken but
has just retraced to the neckline. Unfortunately the US/DX correlation has
not reached +-.50 since 94 so the dollar is not much help.
The pundits are all in agreement that the employment numbers were an
abberation and I'm almost convinced ... but ... I don't know if anyone is
watching lumber these days but current prices are pointing to slack demand
in the housing market ... is that another abberation?
Directional evidence is hard to find!
Earl
