One more advantage of SPY is that you can sell short or buy Long ANY TIME OF
THE DAY.  It is not an End od Day pricing like most all mutual funds.

There are also a number of funds that are designed to go up when markets or
segments go down. Rydex, for example has some of these and there are others
that someone else will probably mention.

I believe being long these funds should serve the same purpose as being
short typical mutual funds.
