Re: Astrology (Why it works)

Regarding the scientific basis for Astrology, there has been some
speculation by an astronomer that the various planets influence the
earth's magnetic field, and we are quite sensitive to changes in the
earth's magnetic field. Something like Jupiter retro, meaning
reverse from normal direction, would likely have a major effect
according to this theory.

Regarding back-testing financial astrology, I have bought an Astrology
Calculation DLL that can be called from Visual Basic or C++.
Although I haven't done it yet, the process would be to compare market
data to the Astrology effects, with accuracy to within a minute if
necessary. I have read of another astrologer who has compared daily
market action with astrology and is now working on astrology effects
and intra-day data, under contract to an institutional trading
department, if I recall.

Astrology is especially big in Asia and Australia.

|At the risk of causing some controversy, I just have to post this
|question!
|
|There has recently been a lot of stuff on RT regarding astrology.
Can
|anyone give me any reasonable picture of a plausible causal link
between
|the motions of stars that are thousands of light years away and the
|movements of the stock markets? Why are non-visible astronomical
objects
|ignored? Remember, as any undergrad statistics student knows, that
|correlation does not equal proof. Talking of "proof" - aren't there
too
|many possible combinations of astological variables leading to "curve
|fitting"? How do you back test "financial astrology"?
|
| At least with fundamental or technical analysis there are some
|plausible links that can be made - eg: the fear/greed factor.
|
|In the absence of any plausible arguement for financial astrology, I
find
|it strange that so many people think there is something in it!
