Donna,
I was merely responding to your posting where you defined A.C.T.I.O.N. I am not
actually familiar with the 'philosphy' as such and hence may be somewhat out of my
depth!

Aikido is a reletively 'new' martial art. I think it was during the 1930's that
Morihei Ueshiba (O-sensei, or Great Teacher) pulled together and refined
techniques from different schools and Aikido was the result. He studied many
forms of martial arts and in refining Aikido he emphasised the spiritual and
harmonic aspects of Budo while de-emphasising the combative inclination of
classical Budo. So, you see, Aikido was not actually practiced by the samurai.

O-sensei's son, Kisshomaru Ueshiba who apparantly still practices at the age of 77
(!), has written many books which have been translated into English on how to
apply Aikido to your way of life and living. I will stick my neck out here and
say that you will acheive a more balanced life through pursuing an art such as
Aikido (or Ikebana, zen meditation etc) and then learning how to apply its
teachings and philosphy to your life in general. If you serious about trading
then trading is part of your life. Achieve a balanced life and your speculative
activities will also benefit. There are no short cuts, hence do not take up
Aikido (or any other pursuit) solely for the reason of improving your trading.

When I lived in Japan I studied Aikido at the Hombu dojo (the world
headquarters). To watch the true followers of Aikido endure their daily practice
was truely amazing. Some of the guys studied directly from O-sensei himself. The
ones that spoke English (I never did master Japanese!) spoke of how Aikido and
Budo were part of their life and not just a pursuit for their spare time. These
are the 'students' that have acheived that balance in their life.

If you must read a book on applying the spiritual aspects of Budo to life in
general and hence trading I have many books I would recommend (email me if you
want a list). None of them even mention trading, yet I would say that the
insights to be gained are nevertheless valuable -as long as you are open to what
may be new ideas.

Hope this helps.

Essan.
