> Other clues, what kind of car do they drive,
With most of the rest, I agreed, but I can't imagine that I would ever
answer this kind of question in an interview of any kind. I maintain
(at least initially) a very strict division between my professional and
personal life. As I do not drive a car to be a broker or CTA, its make
and model is not relevant for a prospective client. My choices of
consumer products of any kind do not reflect on my ability to manage
money or client transactions. Personal thrift or extravagance are not
indicative of either fraudulent or honest behavior, despite the
stereotypes.
Moreover, expenditures for products would have to be viewed not solely
as a function of income, but also as a function of personal net worth in
order to be consistent. I can't imagine anyone asking to review the
full personal/family records of a money manager as part of an interview,
nor can I imagine any competent manager agreeing to divulge such
information. At that point, you're left with stereotyping to determine
whether a fat Mercedes or an old beater Chevy are good or bad signs.
I've got neither, and I honestly don't know which would be more
desireable for my "image"...
