Below are the results of our weekly "Guess the Dow" sentiment survey. The
survey was taken from 1/12 through 1/18 on our web site.
Number of participants: 395
30 day outlook:
60% bullish, 36% last week
23% bearish, 42% last week
18% neutral, 22% last week
(percentages may not sum to 100 due to rounding)
Median guess for the DJIA closing value on Friday, 1/23: 7825 (it was
7380 last week). More complete sentiment data is available at

Bullish sentiment leaped 24% to 60%, while bearish sentiment dropped to 23%
from 43%. An increase in bullishness is not surprising given the strong
performance the market turned in last week. But a 60% is very high. We have
not seen this level since 10/5/97. Which of course would have been a great
time to unload all your stocks. This dramatic rise to in bullish sentiment
has us approacing the market cautiously this week...
