I made my usual Ghost backup disk clone, but didn't remove the second
(removable) hard drive when I rebooted to Win2000. It seems the drive
letters were rearranged on the reboot. I did some work on the computer
with both disks operating before I noticed that both disks were in the
computer. When I removed the second disk and rebooted from the
primary disk, I could not log on anymore.
I put the second disk back, and could then log on. It seems the work
that I did went onto the backup disk instead of the primary disk. I
tried to change the drive letters on the primary disk back the what it
was originally. It did allow me to change "C" on the now-backup disk
to another letter, which I did. "C" was now "J", the next available
letter. However, when I tried to change the primary disk (the now-boot
disk) from "F" to "C" it would not allow me to change it. When I tried
to change "J" back to "C", it would NOT allow that either!
So - now I have NO drive "C" anywhere, and sure enough, the computer
won't boot with either one or both disks inserted.
Any ideas on a way to recover from this so I can reboot would be MOST
welcome.
Learned one thing - it's not a good idea to do things when I'm very
tired.
Thanks,
