Hi Don:

It's most unfortunate that you have got the "Blaster". Since I got from the
news of this virus early in the morning last week. I just stopped all my
browsing activities. Apparently, this is one of the ways of the "Blaster"
to get to your computer. Unlike other virus, no attachments are needed.
Figured that ANY kind of anti virus software will not help if it doesn't
need email, as a media, to spread itself. I just stopped all browsing
activities for three days. It's primitive but it worked. On top of that,
asked my IT friend to send me the "patch" as well as the "fix" (just in case
I got infected) and installed the former. I guess it's a matter of knowing
exactly how the virus spreads itself and that will helped a lot in terms of
preventive measure. Of course, prompt action also helps to alleviate
potential problems. Hope things are fine for your systems now. Take care.

Have a good one

Jeff,
I was running the Grisoft AVG (updates nightly) and I got the Blaster worm
last Sunday. Signs that you have it include, inability to print, links on
emails or websites do not work, copy and paste do not work, inability to
send any email (says you are out of memory), excel documents would not open
(says there is an embedding problem), word documents has similar negative
results, accessing the Microsoft site prevent you from being able to
download the patch MS has for the Blaster worm. Fortunately a friend
emailed me the direct link for the patch and once installed, emailed me
Symantec's worm removal and now everything is OK.

Net result not sure how it got through AVG but I was downloading "many file
attachments" from the WITS (wheelsinthesky) site at yahoogroups before they
delete all the attachments to the archived older messages (a new policy of
theirs which in my opinion renders their groups basically worthless (says
allot about yahoo as well?).

Anyway, that's my "brief" nightmare story (it may have been embedded in an
xls spreadsheet I downloaded, since that was the first time things started
to get weird).
