Hello Gary,
when you add up what you really need in a powerful pc configured by
dell, it's amazing how the cheap price explodes to craziness.
if you trade - most likely you need to wake up to the fact a single
computer is useless. if you can not make the commitment to feed
multiple puters than you need to rethink trading at all. given that.
i would suggest always staying behind the curve slightly and building
your own. there is nothing in the world like being able to fix your
own stuff in half the time it would take to wait on hold for some
script reading minimum wage earning fool, to answer the help call.
so - i would suggest making a few very cheap powerful "simple"
computers and network them. example.
you can buy the following mother board and cpu combination for 100.00
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53Ghz includes Heatsink & Fan Complete Combo Kit
a good case - half a gig ram - fast video - 10/100 nic - 80 gig drive
to total up well under 400.00 and it will run the pants off a dell of
comparable price that is.
yes floppy - cd rom and other non essentials are replaced by singular
usb external pugins - whey buy flops and cd drives for all the
computers, when you only use those items occasionally.
then get a dual wan box like the nexland pro 800 - they have finally
fixed all the auto fail over bugs in it - and it works great.
min two data feeds running cloned trading software on two pc's, one
computer for email only and word processing, file storage. the 4th
puter is used as a catch all - it's duties range from duplicating
trading software setups to duplicating email setups, file storage,
burning cd's, dvd's, maybe a tv card, stereo or whatever you wish.
the above is a good beginner system, i would not put the trading
computers on a switch, or at least have one off a switch if you choose
to use a kvm switch. i prefer to use the free vnc software, thought i
have switches as well. i would get at least two lcd's or one very big
one. i'm sure i left out something, thinking.
