If it's a bug fix, then they get little or no money. By calling it a
new product, they get a LOT more $$. They also look good by appearing
to continue developing new products.

Their 'software' business model relies on a continuous stream of new
customers. They don't make much $$ on existing customers - in fact,
they require support because of the bugs, etc, and are a drain on
company resources. The best strategy is to put all efforts into
getting new customers, and by treating older customers poorly, many
will go away and thus not consume support $$.

The 'broker' model is a bit different.
