While we are talking about time running out perhaps someone or two could
address the issue of running the Omega Global server(dtn mode) on an
ethernet port. We know the esignal online server/subserver will run via
tcp/ip and the DTN version uses RS232. We also know Omega says they will
never provide an ethernet version of the GS. We know PO has created an
ethernet GS for use with Comstock. The solution appears to be a frontend
configuration for data input rather than a major rewrite of the server....as
evidenced by FibonacciTrader and Ensign. Both companies made the ethernet
option available with no fuss or muss and infact welcomed it and did it
essentially overnight. So, what are the possible solutions besides registry
hacking or switching to another software product or switching data vendors?
Is there such a piece of software that will tell the GS to look at a NIC or
a USB port instead of a com port? Belkin makes a USB to ethernet
adapter(12megabits max). They also make a USB to RS232 adapter...this
product facilitates using a modem on a USB port which tells me that software
using comports can be directed to usb ports so whynot a nic port? Maybe it
will take a few registry line changes or an adaptation of some existing
software to bring the GS up to speed. It isn't a question of the GS not
being capable of handling the speed, its a port configuration issue.
