RE: TS6 'waiting for data' problems?

I don't believe Ping plotter will indicate where the latency occurs. Whoever
manages the circuit from your ISP (the uplink from the ISP) should be able
to pinpoint the device that's (temporarily) hanging. You may safely assume
that almost every application service provider, which is what TS Securities
effectively is in this context, will blame the number of hops, your ISP, or
anything else except their equipment and connection.

My uplink to the Internet is Yipes. They deliver fiber connections to ISPs
over Level Three. When I first experienced the latency problem I called
Yipes and asked them to search their logs (SNMP traps). Specifically, the
device that was timing-out seemed to be a CISCO 720X router located at or
very close to the start of the virtual circuit; i.e., the source of the
data. Let me hasten to add though that this is not an exact detection of the
source of the problem. Just a suspicion. One would need disclosure of much
more info from the TS end to be definitive.

Whatever the cause of the latency, and it's interesting that several TS
users experience it so we can't all be wrong as it were, it must obviously
affect intraday trading where ticks and time are rather critical. Still,
this problem in generic terms has been around forever in relation to WANs.
It's just that non point-to-point circuits will exhibit it more obviously.

It would be easy to verify if what "Bill" is suggesting is true. Run ping
plotter using the server "IP" you are connected to at rate of once per sec.
When you notice the charts have been redrawn, immediately pop up the running
ping plotter and see if there was a connection problem. I think I will try
this next week. It bothers me when I see these charts redrawn. I have
wondered what would happen to a system running under EL which automatically
placed trades when this occurrs. On another subject does anyone know if they
have added the ability to trade the emini's to their trading platform.

Regards
Jerry
