OM, I think you are simplifying things a bit too much. Religious fanaticism
comes about not because of religious beliefs, but from a lack of education.
Iran is a case in point. Under the Shah, the country stressed education and
equality though Islam remained their national religion. When the Muslim
clerics took control of the country, their first act was to destroy the
educational system that had built Iran into a productive society. Ignorance
leads to fanaticism and fanaticism leads to terrorism.
